Book a SessionWhat Is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage is a focused, therapeutic technique that targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Unlike relaxation massage, it uses sustained pressure and slow, deliberate strokes to break up adhesions, release chronic tension, and restore range of motion in areas that have been restricted or painful.
This modality is particularly effective for people dealing with chronic conditions — long-standing back pain, neck stiffness, postural imbalances, or lingering injuries that haven’t fully healed. It works by physically breaking down knots and scar tissue that form in muscles over time due to overuse, injury, or poor movement patterns.
Justin combines deep tissue work with complementary modalities — myofascial release, cupping, blading, and hot stones — based on what your body needs. Every session starts with assessment and palpation, so the treatment is never generic.
Issues Deep Tissue Can Address
Deep tissue massage is one of the most effective manual therapy approaches for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
Chronic Back Pain
Upper and lower back tension from posture, overuse, or disc-related issues.
Neck & Shoulder Stiffness
Tension from desk work, driving, stress, or repetitive motion patterns.
Sciatica
Nerve pain radiating from the lower back through the glutes and legs.
Sports Injuries
Strains, sprains, and overuse injuries from training and competition.
Postural Imbalances
Muscular compensation patterns from prolonged sitting, standing, or asymmetric activities.
Limited Range of Motion
Restricted movement in joints and muscles from adhesions, scar tissue, or chronic tightness.
Post-Surgery Recovery
Scar tissue management and mobility restoration after surgical procedures.
Tension Headaches
Headaches caused by muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back.
What to Expect
Every session is customized. Here’s the general flow from start to finish.
Assessment & Palpation
Justin begins by evaluating your posture, range of motion, and areas of concern. Through palpation he identifies where the tension, adhesions, and restrictions are — so the session targets the actual source of your problem.
Targeted Deep Tissue Work
Using slow, sustained pressure, Justin works through the deeper layers of muscle and fascia to break up knots, adhesions, and scar tissue. Pressure is adjusted throughout based on your feedback and the tissue’s response.
Complementary Modalities
Depending on what your body needs, Justin may incorporate myofascial release, cupping, IASTM (blading), hot stones, or lymphatic drainage techniques to enhance the deep tissue work and accelerate results.
Aftercare & Recommendations
After your session, Justin provides specific guidance on stretching, hydration, and any follow-up care to maximize the benefit. If movement coaching would address the root cause of your issue, he’ll let you know.

Deep Tissue FAQ
Deep tissue massage involves firm pressure that can feel intense, especially in areas with significant tension or adhesions. Justin communicates throughout the session and adjusts pressure based on your feedback. Most clients describe it as a “good hurt” — intense but immediately relieving.
Deep tissue massage focuses specifically on reaching the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic tension and adhesions. Sports massage is a broader approach that may include deep tissue work along with other modalities like myofascial release, cupping, blading, and lymphatic drainage — tailored specifically to athletic performance and recovery.
Justin offers both. During your initial assessment, he’ll determine which approach (or combination) will produce the best result for your specific situation.
For chronic pain or injury recovery, weekly sessions for the first 4–6 weeks typically produce the best results. Once the primary issue is resolved, many clients transition to bi-weekly or monthly maintenance sessions. Justin will recommend a frequency based on your specific condition and goals.
Yes. Deep tissue massage can be highly effective for sciatica by releasing tension in the piriformis, glutes, and lower back muscles that may be compressing the sciatic nerve. Combined with targeted myofascial release, it can reduce inflammation and restore mobility. Many of Justin’s clients experience significant relief within the first few sessions.
